Q: What does it mean to blanch almonds? How to I do it?

A: “Blanching” means to remove the skin from the nut.

First you need to remove the shells from the nut. Then drop the shelled nuts into boiling water. Remove the pot from heat. Let stand 2 to 5 minutes or until skins become loose. Pour off hot water. Between your thumb and finger, pinch each nut to push off skins. Spread the “naked” nuts to dry.
